Beloved Coral Gables diner Burger Bob’s closed back in 2022, when its lease was not renewed. The loss of the diner was deeply felt by the Coral Gables community, which has clamored ever since for its return. Now, a recent Instagram post from co-owner Rita Tennyson’s R Catering and Events has announced the Burger Bob’s is coming back.

“We are thrilled to announce that the old Burger Bob’s location has been approved to reopen fall 2024!” the post says. “A heartfelt thank you to the City of Coral Gables for your support.”

Burger Bob’s has been run for decades by Bob Macquire, who acquired it in the 90’s, in partnership with Tennyson, who had joined the project shortly after. It’s home is at the Granada Golf Course.

“The cash-only restaurant, which shared space with the Granada Golf Course pro shop, was cherished by its regulars for its affordable menu, which it served during breakfast and lunch,” says recent coverage by the Miami New Times, which also reported on Burger Bob’s closing back in 2022. “At the diner, you could find a reliable meal for about $5 from a menu of classic American diner fare — everything from platters of eggs and pancakes for breakfast to sandwiches and melts for lunch. And, of course, $5 burgers.”

What Now reached out to Rita Tennyson on Friday to inquire about the details of the menu. Tennyson confirmed the opening, saying, “There are going to be some of the [old] items on the menu, but some new things too.” More information is not yet being revealed.

“This space has been a beloved part of the Coral Gables community for many years, and I am excited for the opportunity to continue its legacy and serve this amazing community once again,” the Instagram post continues.

More details on the reopening are not yet available, but Burger Bob’s is expected to relaunch before the end of the Fall.
