Food Friends Catering has recently applied with the Fort Lauderdale Community Redevelopment Agency for more than $1.2 million in incentives to create its first brick-and-mortar restaurant. Food Friends Southern Comfort Kitchen & Bar would offer southern comfort cuisine in its new home, according to recent coverage in the South Florida Business Journal.

These incentives include a loan to cover construction costs that would be forgivable if Food Friends remains at the same location for five years.

That location is a 3000 square-foot space in a two-story building that stands at 1310-1312 Sistrunk Blvd. If the project is approved, the catering business would relocate to this space from its current home in Oakland Park. The serious disrepair of the building would make this construction project a major one.

“For Food Friends, it’s all about creating a memorable culinary experience that brings everyone together. That is why a personal connection is established from day one,” owner Kenny Lawrence said in the South Florida Business Journal’s coverage, which quotes the business plan Lawrence presented to the city.

What Now reached out to Lawrence on Tuesday. Lawrence was not immediately available for comment. Stay tuned for updates as this story continues to unfold.
