The Greek Joint Kitchen & Bar began as a take-out operation not far from where it is currently located, at 1925 Hollywood Blvd, in Hollywood, Florida. At the time, owners and brothers Jimmy and Chris Sklaventis were operating a sister restaurant in the space, called the Big Easy Restaurant. But the success they had serving up Greek cuisine from secret family recipes led them to switch out the less successful concept, and let the Greek Joint Bar & Kitchen take over the space.

And it seems to have worked: the brand is now preparing to launch a second restaurant, this time in Davie, at 5810 S University Dr.

“It’s going to be fresh and totally vibrant,” Chef Alex Dzhugan told What Now in a phone call early Friday afternoon. “It’s a little more modern than your usual Greek restaurant.”

The new location will open with the same menu currently served in Hollywood, featuring entrees like Lamb Shank braised slowly and served over a summer vegetable ragu, pork and chicken Souvlaki, and Moussaka (Layers of potatoes, eggplant and sauteed ground beef, topped with a light Bechamel crust cooked to perfection, served with lemon potatoes).

Chef Dzhugan suggested, however, that some upgrades may be in store for both locations’ menus not long after the opening.

“We’re going more farm-to-table,” he said, adding that the brand has already been building connections with local farmers, particularly near the Davie location.

In the meantime, Hollywood’s Greek Joint is open from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily (and till 11 p.m. on weekends). The Davie location is expected to open later this fall.
