An exciting development in Miami Beach recently unfolded. On February 9, the “News Café at Oh Mexico Taco Shop” filed a 1034 plan review with the state, which usually encapsulates a plan for new construction. The address given in the filing is 804 Ocean Drive, which is right next to the now shuttered café.

The News Café, owned by Mark Soyka, was a landmark of the Miami Beach area. They closed their doors around this time last year, and the Sun-Sentinel reported that they had plans to reopen on January 8, 2022. It is unclear if these plans are still in motion.

Rebecca Harshaw, who works at Mark’s Classics Corp, spoke with What Now Miami on Thursday to confirm details. Soyka has no connection to whatever concept will appear next to the iconic Ocean Drive location, said Harshaw.

The company listed on the plan review filing is V&E NC Ocean, LLC. This group is behind other popular concepts in the Miami area, like Cortadito Coffee House, which we just reported about their plans for expansion. They also own Oh! Mexico Taco Shop, which is located on Washington Avenue in Miami Beach.

It is unclear if the restaurant group wishes to join their concept with the “News Café” name included in their filing. What Now Miami contacted two of the owners, Eduardo Araoz and Jose Jacobo. Both of which declined to provide information.

The Oh! Mexico Twitter account shared on January 25th that they are coming to Ocean Drive soon.
