Founded in 1989 by two friends, restaurateur Mark Soyka and real estate developer Tony Goldman, News Cafe closed suddenly at the beginning of 2021. The News Cafe reopening is still very much in the works, however. The restaurant made the Miami New Times’ list of Ten Most Anticipated Restaurant Openings in 2023.

What Now reached out to Matias Pesce, CEO of Vida & Estilo Restaurant Group, for an update. Pesce declined to provide information on News Cafe’s opening date, so for the moment we will have to rest in the knowledge that it’s on its way.

Located in South Beach’s Historic Art Deco District, the Tony Hotel is “your prime South Florida oceanfront boutique hotel with meticulously preserved 1930s Art Deco architecture and timeless hospitality.” At 801 Collins Ave, the hotel is part of a cluster of hotels, including Posh Hostel South Beach and the Whitelaw Hotel, along with a wide variety of food and drink locations, including Oh Mexico Taco Shop and Il Dante Caffe.
