BYIS Cafe, which stands for Building Your Immune System, is coming to Margate at 5478 W Sample Road. What Now Miami spoke with proprietor Clinton Wilson on Friday to confirm details. The construction on the space has not begun, and Wilson is in the process of getting permits together. He does not have an opening date available to the public yet.

The concept was born out of immune health awareness brought on by the pandemic, Wilson said. Since then, he has been working out a way to support immune systems in his community.

An experienced restaurateur, Wilson is also the owner of Fancy Loaf Bakery in Miami.

One of the staples of the café will be sea moss. The algae, which grows abundantly in the Atlantic Ocean, is commonly taken for its myriad of health and immune enhancing effects, like improved blood sugar control, help lowering cholesterol and reducing the likelihood of heart disease, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

You can expect to find pastries, teas, juices, smoothies, ginger shots and more once the doors are open, and they all will be infused with sea moss.

A plan review filed with the state last month was approved with provisions on February 4.
