Founded in Boca Raton by Giuseppe and Caterina Lunetto in 1985, Thick & Thin Pizza serves traditional Italian recipes brought to the United States from its founders’ native Sicily. As time goes on, the next generation of the family has come into the business, and the Thick and Thin is now preparing to expand to a second location, this time in Deerfield Beach, at 230 S Federal Highway in the Hillsboro Square shopping center.

“We saw an opportunity here in Deerfield,” Alessandro Lunetto, son of Giuseppe and Caterina, told What Now on Tuesday. “We love Deerfield Beach, and we thought it would be great fit.”

The Deerfield location will feature the same menu that has stood the test of time in Boca Raton, Lunetto said. In Boca, Thick and Thick offers pizza, including a thick square Sicilian pie, a selection of calzones and stromboli, hot and cold subs, and pasta dishes like Gnocchi with meat Sauce, Manicotti, and Baked Ziti. There are also Chef’s Specialties like Eggplant Parmigiana and Sausage Cacciatore; Seafood Specialties like Mussels Marinara and Shrimp Scampi; and more.

Lunetto says the recipes are taken directly from the family’s Sicilian heritage. “The food that we cook is the food we like to eat, and it is made with love.”

To wit: the menu continues to keep homemade ingredients, especially its house-made sauces, front and center.

“We keep everything consistent,” Lunetto said. “It’s all old-school recipes and traditional Italian food.”

Thick & Thin Deerfield Beach is working toward an opening just in time for summer. In the meantime be sure to visit the Boca Raton location and follow @thickandthin_pizza on Instagram.
