After 15 years in its Deerfield Beach home at 1136 E Hillsboro Blvd., Charm City Burger Company is getting ready to move to a new location in Boca Raton. The restaurant, one of South Florida’s most popular burger spots, is working toward an opening sometime around New Year’s at 201 NW First Ave. After the move, the current location will be reborn as a new sandwich restaurant, Charm City Sandwich Co.

Charm City Burger Co. is the creation of local food entrepreneurs Evan David and Mike Saperstein, who are also behind restaurants like El Jefe Luchador and the now-shuttered Rebel House. The duo also owns and operates meat wholesaler Sunshine Provisions.

“We came together when we were working for a wholesale provisions distributor, and when the [original Charm City Burger] space became available, we loved the location, and we did it as a passion project,” Evan David said on Monday in a phone conversation with What Now. “Recently we’ve been focusing on Sunshine Provisions, which moved to Deerfield Beach, and Sunshine is doing great. We have great employees and great management, and it’s allowing us to do another passion project.”

The current Charm City Burger Co. location will remain open with the goal of a transition that will be as seamless as possible, David said. “And when that happens, we’ll begin the minor rebranding of Charm City Sandwich Company.”

In rough terms, this translates into the goal of moving Charm City Burger Co. to Boca around the New Year, with Charm City Sandwich Co. opening a few months thereafter.

In Boca Raton, Charm City Burger Co. will serve the same menu that has made it so popular in Deerfield Beach. Charm City Sandwich Co. will focus on smashburgers and cold subs, says a recent article in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, which lays out the coming menu:

The menu will include a cheesesteak sub, a pileup of Wagyu sirloin topped with a white, Cheez Whiz-style sauce, grilled onions and garlic aioli; a chopped Wagyu cheese sandwich with caramelized onions and hot pepper relish; and a smoked ham and cheese with honey mustard, crispy onions and spicy pickles.

Cold handhelds will range from the Deli Beast (turkey, roast beef, ham, Swiss, bacon) and Maryland-style shrimp salad (Old Bay seasoning, mayonnaise, arugula and tomato) to Off the Frame turkey (Swiss, spicy deli mustard, avocado, sprouts, onion) and Garlic Peppercorn Roast Beef (provolone, horseradish sauce, aged Swiss, arugula, french onion spread). Of course, there will also be a smash burger topped with white American cheese, onions, pickles and housemade Charm sauce on a sesame potato bun.
