According to this article, “The fibrous sponge material [of the roof] soaked up huge amounts of water, compromising the roof within days.” Luckily, circumstances have turned around for the restaurant.

The restaurant has been saved due to the EB-5 Immigrant Investor program. According to Ma-Kai’s site, this program allows “foreign nationals to obtain permanent U.S. residency by making an investment that results in new job creation in the United States. The program has facilitated billions of dollars of foreign direct investment and created tens of thousands of jobs.”

Mai-Kai has delicious Polynesian offerings with entertainment to enhance it. Some of their food dishes include Thai Red Curry, Teriyaki Dinner, Seafood Noodles and Wild Mushroom Beef. Check out all of their menu options here. “The essence of Polynesia comes alive in the songs and dances of the celebrated Islanders Revue” at Mai Kai’s Polynesian shows.

Mai-Kai Restaurant & Polynesian Show is located at 3599 N Federal Hwy. in Fort Lauderdale. To stay updated with the restaurant and for a more specific opening date, keep up with Mai-Kai’s announcement page.
