“It’s the same favorites that people have come to enjoy, like our oxtail and of course our Jamaican patties,” owner Andrew McKinley told What Now on Friday morning. McKinley stressed the important of efficiency and good service in opening the Golden Krust outpost. “We’re going to provide great service and an awesome vibe when our customers come in.”

The brand’s menu of Jamaican favorites centers on its selection of Reggae Fest Meals—served with rice, steamed vegetables, and fried sweet plantains—including Braised Oxtail, Jerk Chicken, Escovitch Fish, and Curried Goat. Golden Krust’s classic Jamaican patties come in varieties like the Blazin’ Pepper Shrimp Patty, the Chee-zee Beef Patty, the Beyond Meat Patty and more. Additionally, a breakfast menu offers Ackee & Saltfish, Callaloo & Saltfish, and Cornmeal Porridge.

South Florida has already proven its an appetite for Golden Krust, which first opened in New York in 1989 and descends from a midcentury restaurant opened near St Mary, Jamaica, called Hawthorne & Sons Bakery.

“People keep asking us, ‘When is it coming? When is it coming?’” McKinley said.

The answer isn’t completely clear yet: no set opening date has been determined. But keep your eyes open for more of Golden Krust’s Caribbean cuisine coming soon near the intersection of SW 160th St and S Dixie Highway.
