Mitch’s began over 30 years ago as a dream held by Mitch Shidlofsky. Born and raised in Woodmere, Long Island, Mitch moved to Florida in 1993 with one child and another on the way. The deli business became his chosen path as it allowed him to be an active part of his growing family’s life. His journey unfolded through buying and selling existing delis until he established his own brand in 2002. The family business grew to six stores from Palm Beach to Miami Dade, and today, one of those original stores remains open in Weston, FL as Mitch’s Westside Bagels. In 2020, Mitch’s son, Adam Shidlofsky, joined the family business after pursuing a career in accounting in New York City. The challenges of the pandemic brought father and son together and during this time Adam expressed his desire to be part of the family business, an idea Mitch initially resisted due to the challenging nature of the restaurant industry.

“One day during the pandemic, my dad and I were sitting on the balcony and I was telling him how badly I wanted to be a part of this. I had so many ideas and felt like I could bring so much to the table by combining both of our strengths,” shares Adam Shidlofsky, Co-Founder of Mitch’s in a statement. “That night I finally got to him, and he said fine if you want to do this, go bake bagels at 4 AM, and the rest is history.”

The new 1,600+ square-foot Atlantic Village location represents a new chapter for the brand. The father-son duo brings a blend of experience and fresh perspectives to the table, making Mitch’s a modern and upbeat twist on the traditional New York Deli. Their goal is to create not just a place to dine but an experience that brings families together, where they know customers on a first-name basis and form personal connections through exceptional service and food. Griffin Brackey is working alongside the Shidlofskys as Director of Operations ensuring that the environment for team members and staff alike embodies the core values of the brand and remains consistent from shop to shop.

The Mitch’s menu features recipes made from scratch, using only the highest quality of ingredients and utilizing techniques fine-tuned over three decades. The restaurant offers a wide range of breakfast and lunch offerings for every palate, from fresh-baked bagels, omelets, French toast and piled-high sandwiches to green salads, classic deli staples and innovative dishes like truffle oil-infused bagels. Breakfast items include The BECTA with thick cut bacon, two scrambled eggs, cheddar, white truffle oil and fresh avocado on a bagel; and Pastrami Breakfast with hot pastrami, two over medium eggs, cheddar, spring greens and everything bagel seasoning. Lunch highlights include: Pastrami Rachel; Turkey or Corned Beef Reuben; better than grandma’s Matzoh Ball Soup, also known as the Jewish penicillin; Potato Knishes made by the same two hands for the last twenty years; a handful of classic NY Deli sandwiches with corned beef, pastrami, roast beef, brisket, salami and turkey; and homemade salad sandwiches including Mitch’s famous tuna salad, egg salad, whitefish salad and chicken salad. Bagels To Go, including the brand’s rainbow bagel and twelve other handmade flavors, and Deli By The Pound are also offered.

Coffee selections at Mitch’s feature local Fort Lauderdale roasters Wells Coffee Company. Offerings include drip coffee, iced coffee, cold brew and nitro cold brew with a handful of flavors, sweeteners and dairy and non-dairy milks. Cold-pressed juices from 305 Squeezed and a selection of canned and bottled craft wine and beer are also available.

The 46-seat restaurant will offer indoor/outdoor seating in a contemporary and inviting space. The design incorporates sleek black tiles and white furniture surrounded by vibrant greenery and the signature “Bagels Don’t Count as Carbs” neon sign affixed on a grass wall.

Mitch’s Downtown Bagel Cafe Hallandale will be located in Atlantic Village at 601 North Federal Highway, Suite 112. The restaurant will be open Tuesday through Friday from 7AM until 2PM and Saturdays and Sundays from 8AM until 3PM.
