Behind the new project are local couple Ronnier and Susana. Ronnier told What Now on Tuesday that the whole project began on the couple’s honeymoon in Hawaii, where they tried boba tea for the first time.

“Long story short,” Ronnier said, “my wife and I fell in love with it. When we came back we decided to look into the business and start our own shop.”

That shop, Boba Bowl Tea, will open later this summer with a selection of boba tea drinks and pressed paninis. But what about the “Bowl” in the name? you might be wondering. Later this year, said Ronnier, the menu will be expanded to include poke bowls and açai bowls.

The retail center at Dixie and 216th is currently home to a supermarket and to butcher shop House of Meats. It also houses several food and drink locations, including Yellow Tail Sub & Grill and Church’s Texas Chicken.
