Founded in 2011 in Dallas, Texas, Velvet Taco has grown to serve its “tacos without borders” at restaurant locations in six southern states, including North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. The brand will now expand to South Florida, making Miami the home of its first location in the state, according to recent coverage by the South Florida Business Journal.

The lease was signed with Thor Equities, a New York City-based developer, for a 3,000 square-foot space at 2800 NW Second Ave.

“Velvet Taco is an ideal fit for the vibrant Wynwood neighborhood and we are thrilled they have selected our development for their debut in Florida,” says Thor Equities Group Chairman Joe Sitt in the Journal coverage.

Velvet Taco’s menus vary by location, but they revolve around the taco, (naturally), categorized by protein: “chick”, beef, pork, fish, and “veg”. The taco varieties are decidedly international. A flair of Indian cuisine shows up in varieties like Spicy Tikka Chicken tacos and Fried Paneer tacos, served at the Addison Dallas location. Under pork we find both the Cuban Pig taco and the Korean Fried Rice taco.

No opening date has been announced for the Miami location.
