Founded in 2016, “Miami’s first Croqueta Bar” Dos Croquetas offers a selection of handcrafted croquetas, shakes, and sandwiches. It launched its first brick-and-mortar restaurant in 2019 and is now preparing to open a second in Calle Ocho at 1555 SW Eighth Street.

What Now spoke on Friday with Alec Fernandez, who co-founded Dos Croquetas with Vicky Carballo. Fernandez says the new location “fits the Calle Ocho vibes. It has hints of our original design, but I would call it more delicate. There are a lot of dark tones with gold and green, our colors.”

The new location will offer the same versatile menu of Croquetas in varieties like the recent addition Yuca Chicharron and the award-winning Medianoche (roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, light mustard, and pickles), along with sandwiches like the new Caja China (Perfectly toasted Cuban bread with two smoked ham croquetas, succulent caja china pork, sautéed onions, and a drizzle of mojo aioli) and Craft Shakes like the new Frozen Hot Cocoa Shake.

“It’s a very simple concept,” says Fernandez. “We’re focusing on our craft croquetas, making everything in house. Our ice cream is local too, which is very important to us. It’s simple food that we try to make with the cleanest ingredients.”

And after Calle Ocho? Fernandez says leases are in negotiations for future locations but that it’s too soon to reveal anything.
