Down the Rabbit Hole to Showcase Vegan Soul Food and Local Black History

At the Rabbit Hole, a vegan soul food restaurant in Pompano Beach, Chef Samuel Woods serves up a tasty menu of vegan soul food dishes. The brand is now about to spin off, heading to Pineapple Grove in Delray Beach, where it will open as Down the Rabbit Hole, offering a slightly abbreviated menu and a space for highlighting local Black history in a storefront space at 311 NE Second Ave. Down the Rabbit Hole will open in November, according to recent coverage by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

“The idea of combining food and Black history really appealed to me, and seeing the great work [George] has done felt inspiring,” Woods told the Sun-Sentinel. “We have an obligation to tell the history of Florida and the Black communities who haven’t had their stories told.”

Down the Rabbit Hole will feature a menu of Rabbit Hole dishes like the Freedom Burger (Impossible burger, plant-based pork belly, vegan mac) and chicken wyngs served with fifteen different sauces made in-house. It will also launch two possible spin-off brands: vegan burger brand Vrgr, and a vegan chicken wing brand Wyng.

Events at Down the Rabbit Hole may include cooking classes, art history tours, book and poetry events, short-film screenings and more. Talks are underway for the restaurant to borrow artwork and photographs from nearby institutions like Spady Cultural Heritage Museum and the Delray Beach Historical Society.
