West Coast-born chicken franchise Dave’s Hot Chicken has come a long way since its founding as a small stand in an East Hollywood parking lot. With hot chicken offerings whose spice levels range from No Spice to “Reaper” (which you’ll have to sign a waiver to try), Dave’s has grown explosively, passing 100 locations earlier this year.

The chain now has its sights set on South Florida, where three franchisees have signed on for eight to ten locations apiece. One franchisee bringing the chain to Broward County is Craig Ollis, who spoke with What Now on Tuesday about plans for launching Broward’s first Dave’s.

“The brand is extremely fun, and the product is amazing,” Ollis said, discussing his introduction to the franchise. “And you may not know this, but the number one most requested market for Dave’s Hot Chicken right now is South Florida.”

The menu at Dave’s is a streamlined affair focusing on tenders and sliders served up alongside sides like Fries, Cheese Fries, Mac & Cheese, and Kale Slaw. With seven different spice levels, it’s not all or nothing; if you want your chicken spicy but not waiver spicy, there are spice levels like Mild, Medium, Hot, and Extra Hot.

Dave’s Hot Chicken will open in Westfork Plaza, a retail center located on the northeast corner of Pines Boulevard and Northwest 160th Avenue in Pembroke Pines.

“That will be the first one,” said Ollis, adding that while no additional locations have been secured yet, “we’re looking.”
