As up-and-coming open-air shopping mall Esplanade at Aventura continues to fill out its retail and restaurant roster, another South Florida-born brand is seizing the opportunity for expansion. The Salty, a donut shop founded in 2014 by Amanda Pizarro and Andy Rodriguez, is opening a location there.

The brand, “a now national donut shop that started as a pop-up in Wynwood,” will open at Esplanade at Aventura this summer, said a representative of the company. “With artful attention to detail and using nothing but the finest ingredients, The Salty serves unique donut and coffee combinations, from a whipped lemon ricotta bomboloni to a vegan ultimate Oreo cookie donut.”

The Salty’s Miami locations serve baked goods like the Potato Egg & Cheese Turnover, the Everything Bagel Cream Cheese Puff, and the Cherry Pie Pop Tart, along with a broad selection of unique donut flavors like Blueberry Crumb Cake, Guava & Cheese, and White Chocolate Tres Leches.

“At ‘The Salty’, we believe in the transformative power of a really freakin’ good donut, baked goods and a perfectly crafted coffee,” says the Salty website’s About page. “We strive to tell stories through our ever-changing menus of new flavors and weave ourselves into the fabric of the neighborhoods we’re in to create spaces for the community to gather and positively impact those around us. Simply put, we like to make people feel good.”

What Now reached out to CEO and co-founder Andy Rodriguez on Wednesday to inquire about details regarding the Esplanade at Aventura location’s rollout. Rodriguez was not immediately available for comment.
